About the Course

Trans and gender-diverse individuals often face unique and deeply personal challenges when navigating family building, conception, pregnancy, and postpartum care. This session equips healthcare professionals with knowledge and tools to provide affirming, inclusive reproductive and perinatal care. Topics include the impact of gender dysphoria on fertility journeys, systemic barriers to care, and the importance of culturally sensitive communication. Providers will learn how to support the mental health and reproductive goals of trans and gender-diverse patients while fostering safe, respectful clinical environments.

Learning Objectives

• Understand the unique reproductive experiences of trans and gender-diverse individuals, including the impact of gender dysphoria, fertility preservation considerations, and systemic barriers to care. • Identify common challenges faced by trans and gender-diverse patients in accessing affirming reproductive and perinatal healthcare. • Implement inclusive practices that support trans and gender-diverse individuals and families during family building, pregnancy, and postpartum care. • Utilize appropriate language and communication strategies to foster trust and safety in clinical interactions with trans and gender-diverse patients.

Healthcare professionals working with families in the perinatal period. This includes mental health providers, social workers, nurses, physicians and midwives, doulas and birth workers, chaplains, lactation consultants, health educators, and more.

Meet Your Instructor 

Hez Wollin is a Clinical Social Worker based in the San Francisco Bay Area, licensed in California and Washington State. With over ten years of experience, Hez specializes in working with LGBTQ+ and immigrant/refugee communities. Bilingual in Spanish, Hez offers services in both English and Spanish and is also an adjunct professor at the University of Washington School of Social Work. As a queer, transmasculine, and nonbinary individual (they/them), Hez brings a deep understanding of identity complexities and the impact of systemic oppression, including racism, transphobia, and sexism. Outside of work, Hez enjoys biking, making pottery, and reading fiction.
